About
This movie, like so many ideas, was born of a little seed. This seed just happened to be planted in the brain of a ski bum (Brent Englund), so it took a good decade for it to germinate.
Brent had no movie making experience, yet this did not deter him.
In typical ski bum fashion, about once a winter, he would get some friends,
a camera guy, some margaritas and roll tape.
This ended up being an unintentional time capsule of people,
for a few are no longer with us.
Then on a fated night, in the restaurant where Brent worked, he met Hayley Nenadal.
Hayley saw his vision and brought the film experience and organization that Brent needed to make this idea come to life.
When Dishwashers Were Kings (WDWK) is a short documentary exploring the loss of ski bum culture in Telluride, CO. It addresses the universal themes of change, challenge and perseverance that not only impact Telluride but also resonates in any authentic subculture fighting for its soul.
When Dishwasher Were Kings premiered outside, on the streets of Telluride, CO on Sept. 10, 2025.
Through sun, rain, rainbows, hail and more rain, the people stayed.
